When you get an error with the code 0xc000000e, it can mean either a hardware failure on your PC or incorrect driver configuration. No matter the cause, you will need to repair your computer in this situation. This error may appear with a few different messages informing you about problems:

  • With devices (“Required device is inaccessible” and “A required device isn’t connected or cannot be accessed”).
  • With the selected entry (“The selected entry could not be loaded because the application is missing or corrupt” or just “The selected entry could not be loaded”).
  • With boot selection (“The boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible”).

When you get 0xC000000E or the message with “STATUS_NO_SUCH_DEVICE,” – it is either incorrect drive configuration or hardware malfunction. Before jumping to the conclusion, we recommend to check your computer externally (cables and connection) and internally (drives, using diagnostic tools recommended by your drive manufacturer). On computers with old IDE drives, this code may also say about improper master-subordinate drive configuration.

Different causes for the mentioned errors are provoked by the system’s inability to access the winload.exe file (it might be corrupted, for example) or Windows’ inability to find the system boot location. So, logically we need to make some adjustments to make booting possible and regain access to the operating system.

Fix error 0xc000000e on Windows

First, we will name the general fixes for the problem. They should work for any scenario. Do them one by one until the error vanishes:

  • Rebuild Boot Configuration Data.
  • Run automatic system repair.
  • Double-check all physical device connections.
  • Reset your UEFI (or BIOS) settings.
  • Mark your disk as Online.

Method #1: Rebuild the BCD file

You will need a bootable media with Windows 10 on it for this method. In case, you don’t have one, look for the guide on our website and create a bootable USB flash drive with Rufus.

When you have the needed device, boot from it and select the Repair option that will appear on the first screen during the Windows 10 installation procedure. You will need to choose the partition with your operating system from the list and click Next.

Select the Command Prompt option in the System Recovery Options box. When Command Prompt launches, type this command and press Enter: bootrec /rebuildbcd

bootrec

When the program finds out a Windows Installation, you just need to press Y in order to boot from the list. It is done – you have successfully rebuilt BCD. Now check if the problem is solved.

Method #2: Use a tool for Automatic Repair.

It is the easiest way, but it is not guaranteed to work. However, nothing prevents you from trying it anyway. It may find the conflicts that provoke the error and resolve them.

Method #3: check connections on physical devices

First, make sure that you have no other device connected to your PC. It is important because your BIOS/UEFI might have an odd configuration that allows external devices to have a higher boot priority than your hard drive with the system on it. Thus, Windows cannot load normally. For example, you have an external disk attached to the computer. It does not have an operating system on it, but your computer tries to boot from it. Disconnect all kinds of those devices and see if it helps.

Method #4: Reset BIOS/UEFI settings

If the previous methods have failed, you can reset the BIOS configuration. After the reset, BIOS will have default settings intended by the manufacturer. Any blocks during the boot procedure will be removed.

Method #5: Mark your Disk as Online

For this method, you will also need a bootable Windows 10 media. Repeat all steps from the first method above to launch Command Prompt. When it is done, type the following command and hit Enter: diskpart.

Now you have initiated the Diskpart utility that runs within Command Prompt. Here you need to type one of the following commands – list disk or list volume. The first one will show all the connected disks, while the second one will list all partitions on those disks. Depending on the chose command, now you have two choices – you can type in either select disk # or select volume # – and hit Enter. It lets select the partition or disk you want.

And the final step: type online disk # or online volume #. Press Enter. This how you mark the selected disk as Online.

All these five methods are not difficult to execute. One of them should help you to fix the 0xc000000e error!
