Angry IP Scanner is an IP address and port scanner that is an open source and cross-platform administrative utility. The software works without the need for installation, as well as being relatively lightweight, so it can be used from any location at any time.

What Angry IP Scanner does is to just ping each IP address to check if it is still in use, it then optionally resolves the host name, determines the Mac address and then scans the ports. You can extend the amount of data that is gathered by each host with various plug-ins.

How Angry IP Scanner helps you

It is common fact that IP scanning tools are used by network administrators in managing a network. However, people can also use IP scanners for casual personal use. Angry IP Scanner is a freeware that works on all versions of Windows, without adware protection. It does not use the traditional CMD feature which is a rather slow way of pinging other computers. Rather, Angry IP Scanner provides a convenient and time-saving utility for scanning IP addresses and management of your local network through making available all the NetBIOS info you need.

There are separate threads for each scanned address by Angry IP Scanner, in order to reduce the scanning time. There are several functions for the scanning process, meaning you can inspect a particular IP to know whether it is still alive or it is dead, as well as search for open ports. You are also enabled to access "Windows Shares" FTP, Trace-route or Telnet for each of the selected entries on your list. Some of the details you are privy to are the currently logged user, the workgroup machine belongs to, computer manufacturers' name and Mac address.

The result from scanning IP addresses can be saved to CSV, TXT, XML or IP Port list files. Anyone that can write Java code is able to write plugins, and plug-ins are  known to help gather information about scanned IPs, thus you can extend the functionality to Angry IP Scanner. Angry IP Scanner is mostly used by network administrators around the world, as well as large and small enterprise, government agencies and banks.
