We can say that .NET Framework 4.5.1 was a very nice addition to the Windows 8.1 release. It also came out accompanied by Visual Studio 2013. All Windows 8.1 users have .NET Framework 4.5.1 pre-installed in their systems. So there is no need to upgrade the framework manually. The previous version, .NET Framework 4.5, comes pre-installed with Windows 8. If you are using this version of Windows, we recommend you to download the latest version of the framework.
In order to run .NET Framework 4.5.1 on your computer, it must have at least 850MB of free space on the hard drive (for the 32-bit operating system). If you have the 64-bit version of Windows, then you need at least 2GB of free space for installation. This version of the .NET framework is compatible with the following operating systems: Windows Vista (SP2), Windows 8, Windows 7 (SP1), and Windows Server 2008 R2.
Installing the framework
Installing .NET Framework 4.5.1 on your computer requires you to download its installer. You can choose the web or offline installer. The difference between these two installers is in their approach to the installation process. The first one will automatically download all required components during the installation, while the second one comes packed with everything already (so you don’t need an active internet connection to finish the installation process).
The .NET Framework 4.5.1 is super-compatible, we see it as a big step forward from the previous versions. The offline installer is an optimal solution for situations when you cannot use the web installer due to absent internet connectivity.
.NET Framework 4.5.1: what’s new?
Here is a short list of main features added in this update:
